Despite being forewarned, elderly couples over 70 years old - Floyd and Donna Rockwell - still shocked after what has happened to them and those around them.

They joined 100 others fled to a church for shelter. When the storm struck, Mr. Rockwell was trying to protect his wife. He found the church roof was speed up and hit the ground. His eyes have seen at least one person buried in the rubble. But then he learned that there are six other people dead.
When the terrible moment passes, new Rockwell believe his grandparents were still alive. They, along with survivors crying, praying and comforting ones. They pray to god for the storm passes. According to statistics, in the Joplin area where the grandparents live, there were 89 dead, 600 wounded, along with thousands of houses and constructions were destroyed.

At a shop in Joplin, when tornadoes to flooding, customers and employees were isolated in the back room. The store cashier, she tells Rebecca Skinner, she screamed in fear when the storm swept away the roof, steel truss above. After the storm passed, she and some other people start crawling out from the rubble.
Elderly couple Donald and Helen Capps also lucky to escape death in their home, when the ceiling collapsed by a tornado. Mr. Capps said: "Fortunately, the pillows fell on our heads and not other things." Mr. Capps was an ex soldier who took part in the Korean War, said destruction in Joplin made him relate to a former battlefield.

She is also survived Brenna Burzinski second floor apartment she was living with her boyfriend. She said: "Everything around me shaking, upset at all. It's terrible, I thought I was dead. " Brenna saw many people falling down from the floor. She said: "I do not know who is falling from the upstairs living or dead. I'm afraid everything related to tornadoes. "
