A DELEGATION from the United Kingdom’s Royal College of Defence Studies made an informal visit to the Sam Rainsy Party headquarters in Phnom Penh yesterday and was joined by British ambassador Andrew Mace. SRP spokesman and lawmaker Yim Sovann said the group met with officials for two hours and discussed the possibility of a merger between opposition parties. The SRP and Human Rights Party have long floated talks of a merger, though these negotiations have grounded to a halt in the past few months amid recriminations traded back and forth. “It was just a meeting to get a different perspective on the politics here after they’d been to see different people in the government and the National Assembly,” Mace said. according to Phnom Penh Post, May 19, 2011
