Calvin Nicholls began experimenting with paper sculptures from 1986 and since then has produced more than 500 works. Each work of art like this can "consume" his take about four weeks or even two years.
He said to start the creative process, right through a series of sketches and make final decisions about the details before going into sculpture. The artist took the natural surroundings as the main inspiration for his work. After completing work with colors, he continued to test the interaction between light and shadow on the surface of the paper. He often works with a sheet of paper and paper knife, under the support of studio lighting.
His work has received numerous awards, been used by international groups and appeared in galleries throughout North America.
Sculpture is considered one of the popular art form, requiring a lot of time, effort, and the abundant inspiration and long experience to create real masterpieces . The artist sculpted in various materials like stone, wood, leaves, vegetables and even paper. This again confirms the artistic creativity has no limits.
