Foreign Minister Hor Namhong aimed to improve bilateral relations between Cambodia and Thailand during an upcoming meeting with newly appointed Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Towichakchaikul in the Kingdom next week, officials said yesterday.
“We expect the upcoming visit of the Thai Foreign Minister [on September 14 and 15] will boost co-operation in all fields,” Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Koy Kuong said.
Last week, a Thai news agency quoted Surapong as saying that during the visit he would request information about alleged secret talks between Cambodia and the former Thai government on overlapping offshore territories, and would “seek the opportunity” to help secure the release of jailed Thai Yellow Shirt nationalists Veera Somkwamkid and Ratree Pipattanapaiboon.
Diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Thailand appear to have warmed since the election of Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in July. According to ppp
