An aircraft of the airline Gulf Air has skidded off the runway at the airport Kochi, India today, killing at least seven passengers were injured by jumping from the plane panicking.

"Flight GF270 symbol eccentric runway this morning at 3h55 (local time)," news agency Press Trustof India quoted Kochi airport director said. The flight from Bahrain, carrying 137 passengers and six crew personnel. Officials said the runway was closed and some flights have been diverted after the crash.

According to some reports, some passengers jumped off the plane in a panic through the exit door, even before the stairs were put to flight. The plane crashed into a swampy area, causing damage to the nose wheel. Officials said that because the nose is broken, emergency stairs should not work.
"Therefore, a rescue team took the stairs to the scene. But before they arrived, people began to jump down. All the injured because they jumped too early, " AFP quoted an official as saying. A passenger is being treated in nearby hospitals, while others have been discharged after first aid. Weather at the time the plane landed with wind and rain. The investigation into the accident is being done.
In May last year, a passenger plane has skidded off the runway while landing in the city of Mangalore, India, causing 158 deaths.
