Painting that a cambodian boy won EU International Competition
“I am very delighted to see another Cambodian boy won EU’s International Drawing Competition again. It is a great pride of Cambodia to have won second year in a row, especially to have such intelligent generation who understood the gender equality concept since a very young age,” said Ambassador-designate Jean-François Cautain, Head of EU Delegation to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
“Once upon a time there was a girl and a boy; together they wanted to make the world a better place…” is the main concept of the International Drawing Competition for children that the European Union launched globally on the International Women’s Day every year.
This year, over 40 000 children aged between eight to ten sent in their visions of how to make the world a fairer and more equal place. This year’s competition has seen participation from 60 countries in seven regions: Africa, Asia, Caribbean, the Pacific, Latin America, Mediterranean, the Middle East and the European Neighbouring Countries of the EU.
The drawing completion is one of the EU’s initiatives as the world’s leading donor, committed to implement its plan of action on gender equality and women empowerment. In Cambodia, the EU through the Delegation of the European Union has supported ten gender related projects with total amount of € 3.4 million over the last five years which have been implemented by non-government organisations.
