At least 66 people have died within six days because of heavy rains caused landslides, flooding and the bridge collapse in Central America.

In a press conference yesterday, the director of civil protection agency El Salvador, Jorge Melendez, said at least 24 people were killed as heavy rains in the country. Most victims were buried in the house because of landslides. This country is on alert and ready to deal with major disasters.

According to the AP , authorities evacuated residents in the area around a volcano near the capital San Salvador, where each occurrence of landslides hundreds of people died in 1982. Melendez added congestion as flood a major highway in western El Salvador and destroyed a bridge. In the eastern state of San Miguel, overflows from the Rio Grande River has flooded a large agricultural area.
According to Melendez, heavy rain expected to fall further in the next 24 hours and may last until Wednesday this week. He said, El Salvador has received up to 200 mm rainfall in 12 hours previously.
Meanwhile, the Guatemalan government has confirmed 28 deaths in this country, in addition to more than two people missing and rain expected to fall further in two days. President of Guatemala, Alvaro Colom, announced the government will meet to consider the state of emergency declared in this country today.
